3DSurfScan uses the iPhone®/iPod® as a 3D Surface Scanner to view, create, modify and export 3D surface models of complex objects or surfaces.
Engineers, designers, animators, artists or 3D enthusiasts can now use their iPhone®/iPod® to easily enhance their 3D models with complex textures and surface geometry that would have been very difficult or costly to add prior to 3DSurfScan.
Others will simply enjoy creating and displaying new and unique 3D surface models and images of everyday objects around us.
What makes 3DSurfScan special is that it allows the user to create and view in real-time a 3D surface model of an object viewed by the rear facing camera of the iPhone®/iPod®. As you move the camera the 3D surface model changes correspondingly without delay. You can also zoom, rotate, pan, change color palettes, and change the height/elevation of the model simply to get the ideal view of the model. When you are happy with the final model simply email or save 3D file in Wavefront® *.obj (Open source *.obj file) for use in your favourite CAD program.
3DSurfScan features the following:
1-Real-time 3D model generation.
2-Live dynamic viewing of the 3D surface model (zoom, pan, rotate).
3-Pause function to freeze the model for more detailed review and changes.
4-Dynamic height/elevation control (positive/negative).
5-Three Camera lens settings allowing different size image fields and resolution.
6-Four colour palettes.
7-Creates and exports 3D file in Wavefront® *.obj format.
8-Save Tab to save file to iPhone®/iPod® filing system (tap it during live view for uninterrupted model export,
or during paused view)
9-Send Tab to attach the *.obj model to an email ready to be sent.
10-On screen Help (without interrupting the above functions)
Note: All features are operational in live /paused/ help modes.
Created object depends on the lighting condition as app uses the grayscale factor to create the 3D model. 3D model is not the exact 3D geometry of the scanned model.
